The Search For 'Captain America' Begins

The search for Captain America the movie continues as Marvel Studios' are finalizing the details of their upcoming movie that is hopefully to be filmed in June.

Among the running to don the red, white, and blue suit and spread American ideals in the big-screen adaptation of Captain America are G.I. Joe’s Channing Tatum, Ryan Phillippe, Fantastic Four’s Chris Evans; Cloverfield’s Mike Vogel, Gossip Girl’s Sebastian Stan; and Young and the Restless’s Wilson Bethel.   Lenghty screen test were held at the Marvel Studios for the four of them.  One of the candidates for the role Garrett Hedlun of Tron and is believed to be the studio's first choice but there are rumors he is no longer in the running for the role.

Marvel is expected to have a decision soon and we heard that the movie will be shot in London as as the Joe Johnston-helmed movie will feature a stylized 1940s WWII backdrop. And while Cap won’t be fighting Hitler as he did in the very first Captain America comic book, he will battle Red Skull, Hitler’s right-hand man, Entertainment weekly reports.

Aside from the casting challenge one of the things Marvel should consider is that what comes next.  We heard that Avengers will be out in theaters by summer of 2012 and anyone who are familiar with the Marvel stories know that Captain America is a father figure to the rest of the Avengers.  With that in mind they have to make sure that the one they'll cast as Captain Americal can go toe-to-toe with the likes of Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man, Samuel Jackson’s Nick Fury, and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, to name a few. “They’re casting two franchises here,” said a source close to the production. “This is no easy feat.”
